With Zaw-Afikh having such a small population I imagine outside their own communities it's rare to see them except in the larger cities and so probably not surprising that their being able to see infrared light isn't well known.
At least we know Tial became more confident with wearing glasses later on, though shyness and social anxiety is something that can always be with you. Still painful for Mrs Marubah she might not be able to reassure her child though.
