I always thought dogs were easy to fool by fake throw because they may have poor eyesight. Instead, it is because canines do not follow movement, they "calculate" movement destination. Something called "anticipatory response". This is how canines hunt - they cannot outrun the prey, so they run to where they think the prey will be.
