I've been discovering recently, that digital tools that try to blend like paint seriously don't agree with me. They don't create an appropriate gradient, don't behave the way I need half the time, and mistakes make a mess that create more mistakes when you try to fix them. It's not good.
So instead, I'm most likely moving on to an "additive" workflow. Pencil rules, more or less; colours don't mix, but they get layered for texture and shading. Instead of both lightening and darkening after applying flats, a very pale flat layer is applied and everything afterwards deepens or darkens it. It's a much more intuitive workflow than wrestling with computer-calculated colours on the fly.
Therefore, here's a cat for practice and to try a more "pencil" colouring style. I had forgotten multiply layers were a thing, but they seem like they'll be a core aspect of this workflow.
