About 2 feet long, this snake has evaded me for the past three days. I've been on the prowl for it ever since I saw the critter on the front doorstep. Well I actually didn't get a GOOD glimpse of the snake at the time. Just the speed it could reach when getting away. (didn't see it til the last second)
But today I was checking on my toad, The Beast, and happened to glance to my right to spot the snake. I think I woke people up with my frantic run across the house to snag the camera. ^___^
He/she only started to do the tongue flicking, sniffing the air, when I took a step forward. I think I'm good at keeping a hand-camera fairly steady without actually propping it on something, but my cautious steps forward and looking at the ground was why the camera has a huge shake/shiver near the beginning. After that I just stayed put and got some good video of this awesome critter.
I would have gotten closer (or in my younger days attempted a capture), but I didn't really want to scare the critter.

there is a remarkable variety, most of them sublte, but there are ones with checkered patterns, some with red checkered patterns, but in addition to black and creme, red, and even greenish blue is also in some species, of which there are several dozen scattered around the us.
