They'd have been learning it from a relatively young age. Even someone with serious attention deficit would pick up the language quickly when fully immersed, like Kai says they have been. At least a month in Italy every year, with native speakers surrounding them and unlikely to care if they dont understand would prove good incentive to pay attention at least to what's going on around them. There's a reason why they say immersion is the best way to learn a language.
Well well. xD That seems to have gone well.
And now I want to know all about their grandparents and how they reacted when their son became the father of two little dragons. ><
Also, neat way to show they're talking in another language! I... don't actually remember how you did it before, though I'm sure Japanese has been spoken.

My hotel once had a restaurant where the owner actually berated the server for talking to the customers.
"Don't talk to them! They are here to eat not to chit-chat!"
The fool only knew how to cook, not how to run a restaurant. You WANT people to feel welcome and recognised so that they want to come back.
Needless to say he did not get enough customers to stay in business.
