The things you see coming out from her head aren't hairs, but a sort of tentacles. She usually keeps them "inside", but when she needs them they "grow" from her skull. What they do? Those tentacles can feel all the weather's variations and, if she touches something with them, she can feel if it is "eat-able", poisonous or everything else, without getting damaged.
