It's different when you have a very traditional Asian parent. Love, sure, that's there. But some people just don't *get it* and when that happens, I'd sooner express myself in other ways. It doesn't bother me, though. My art is my true expression. I don't actually need to wear it physically. Apparently I already act like a feline naturally. : P
Oh yeah. :) I used to spend some meditation time in my room with incense and candles and she thought it was rather odd to see. My dad's white and he'd probably think wearing ears and tail is odd. I just like it when people think "Oh, okay" instead of asking questions. Maybe I'll try it some day. I love wearing a santa hat around Christmas, even if people think I'm strange. It wouldn't be out of the ordinary to wear something else. I used to wear wigs around for fun.
Well, you are talking to a true punk here. And punk wasn't about dressing a certain way or doing anything specific (not like what they call "punk" today), it was about self-expression without bounds.
Furry, therefore, is a kind of punk in that regard. And its probably why I enjoy the fandom so much.

Actually, the true idea of punk came from England in the 60s. It was imported into America in the 80s, and promptly co-opted by corporations to be exploited as a fad. Doc Martins became the brand-name. For the record, I wore combat boots with metal heel taps even when Doc Martins, considered punk-wear in England at the time, were first available at the Velvet Underground in Whittier, CA.
I was also what one would now consider "goth" during my punk years.
Fads suck, and I sincerely hope that Fandom never gets co-opted by a for-profit corporation bent on exploiting people's desire to separate themselves from society (irony anyone?)
