Bit of a small lore dump follows, if you're interested.

So I actually put a decent amount of thought into this stance. It's featured in animated form in Thundertale GX, actually. You can compare it in this screenshot.

I borrowed from when I took karate as a kid. One of the weapons I learned to wield was the bo staff; basically a long stick. There's a decent amount of swinging and blocking involved, which I thought translates pretty well to Serule's magic casting style.

I *hate* the "I'm standing there casting a big spell!!" poses where you lift your staff and it glows and you gather energy before unleashing a giant EKU-SPLOSION. It just ... screams "hit me!" So, Serule's magic mostly involves a lot of moving around. The further he moves, the more amplified the spell. He uses a staff to augment this; swinging it around generates even more movement than using your hands and arms alone.

Anyway, back to the bo. He'll use a lot of bo techniques to cast his magic, making large, sweeping motions for more powerful, long-ranged attacks. The stance here is a more offensive ready stance; his staff is already pulled back and is storing potential energy. (It's actually quite similar to the Gunbreaker ready stance.) He's angled sideways, as it's more stable and exposes less of his body, and his free hand is ready to do whatever.

In a more defensive situation, he'd be holding his staff forward with both hands. It sacrifices a lot of potential power, but it's a much more compact, quick stance well-suited for quick, defensive moves and other jabs.

...anyway. One of these days I'll make that anime opening sequence everyone has in their heads... and maybe you'll notice some of these things in it. ;>
