FBA - Worried Rookie Prospect
The FBA Rookie Draft is tomorrow, and Lance is REALLY worried about his chances of making it. The picture shows the night of the draft (EDIT: Tonight!!), and he's watching anxiously to see if he's made it.
Behind him is a poster of
buckhopper, who is Lance's all time hero. He's the reason he got into basketball in the first place. Poster was drawn by

Thank you! As for the pudge, I dunno - he's a pretty active guy- it just sticks to him, he's naturally stocky. That and if he IS put on a team, I dunno how much playing time he's going to get - he may end up heavier if he's not careful about how much he plays outside of games... provided he even makes a team...

I honestly don't know. The FBA Draft is tonight! o.o If he makes it, he will happily sign his rookie card for you.

You've captured a truly honest and powerful moment. This is one part of pro sports that doesn't get talked up much-- too often we're so lost in watching the superstars that do make it that we don't think about those players just on the edge, desperate to make it in, struggling against their competition and themselves to prove their worth. The nervous look in his eyes, the glow of the TV casting his shadow on the poster of his idol-- without even saying a word, there's so much of the story being told right here in the image. And that is what makes the best pictures. Outstanding job.
It's a shame he didn't get picked-- but he should continue to promote himself. If he watches the sports news, he'll know that many FBA teams are understaffed right now. Clubs like the Rapids and the Alphas need to sign new players even after the draft just to reach the league's 12-fur roster minimum. That means furs out of free agency will get picked up, and if he can prove himself to a GM, he'll have to settle for a league minimum contract, but he can get his big foot in the door.
And after that, it's all about proving yourself. There's plenty of stories of furs who got in through free agency, never seemed like much, then burst onto the scene becoming better than anyone imagined. A true athlete never gives up, no matter what the obstacles.

Thanks B-Hop! I really worked hard to capture what he was feeling coming up on the FBA draft. I'm one of those weird people who can't help but put himself in his characters shoes, and I really had to put this picture down to get his nervousness out of my system.

*laughs* No, he couldn't afford to fly out (being just out of highschool) so he just watched on TV. He was watching the whole draft anxiously by himself because he knew he couldn't handle it if he didn't make it and had other people around in the room.
