Stealing is bad.
It kills creativity!
More "seriously", thank you very much for the watch. It is now a few weeks I wanted to do this kind of "experimentation" with my watchers. Even if, as mentioned in my last journal entry, I am not especially interested to join the "crypto bro" people (the crypto-currency context seems quite fuzzy and erratic for the moment) yet, even if it is clearly justified by the many stolen art appearing on OpenSea, the hatred toward NFT is almost as interesting as the religious fascination some people show for it.

As I have seen it, the obsessive hatred towards the NFT craze has come as a mirror to the same craze in the crypto fandom. It does seem that the crypto bros seem to have the upper hand in that they have more monetary leverage that most NFT haters do. Definitely an ouroboros of clashing ideologies spiralling downwards.
Un collègue que j'ai mis dans la confidence, m'a exactement fait la même remarque.
Et dire qu'il me faut juste appuyer sur une touche pour créer 100 icônes différentes :

Throughout this time I am submitting shit-posts here and there my watchers are getting used to it, don't they? I had to do it when the topic was still "hot"; on April first, the NFT-mania would probably have completely disappeared… or, on contrary, FurAffinity would have become the first Furry site involved into crypto-currency market… or our world would have be reduced into ash by a nuclear war.
I am glad you are relieved, yet do not forget that some artists are looking for incomes (it isn't my case, I am a French civil servant and I draw only for fun). I hope that people are aware that this NFT mania is more complex than a it seems. And even if I am personally extremely cautious not to say mistrustful of this "solution" a it is presented now, I cannot ignore the fact that some artists (I can name some very talented among them) truly believe in their choice of associating their works to NFT. Unfortunately, I won't support them in their choice, at least not in the current context.
I usually enjoy making fun of these kind of stuffs that appear both absurd an disturbing, yet I also love seing the reaction of people even if it had some uncomfortable consequences for me (I got a 24 hours suspension from FA last year for some "irrelevant" pictures I posted in the past and forgot removing when FA changed -retroactively- its Acceptable Upload Policy).
If, in a parallel (dystopian) reality, I was actually proposing to sell some of my "artworks" (or any other content) as NFT, I hope that some people would have enough analytical ability before taking any kind of decision… like, for example, supporting some artists buying NFT in the current context (a mix of fuzziness and pyramid scheme).
I perfectly understand the reason people are (currently) against the concept:
- a concept at its early days that somehow looks like a pyramid scheme
- an easy way to make (crypto) money with (often stolen) cheap artworks
- the lack of laws regulating and -more important- securing all this
- some (very) annoying "crypto bros" encouraging you to get involved into it
- the fact that it cannot be "controlled" (and it would never be, cf. blockchain)
- etc.
Of course, all these thing make us forget that blockchain technologies are about being the new norm in a very near future and that all the researchers, engineers, lawyer and administrators will have to work to "stabilize" it. And it will take time, maybe less than two decades (that was more or less the time Internet has become what it is now, with still many flaws). Crypto stuffs are still considered as some kind of "Far West", sources of fascination for the ones attracted by full-freedom and limitless possibilities or source of (more or less irrational) fears for the ones attached to their security (which is my case).

Yeah you do make good points, forgive the long poor grammar reply, this topic just interests me a lot right now and I tend to rush when my mind is going.
I suppose I just would rather a free market exist in a time when the government is constantly stealing from its people using inflation to avoid directly taxing you. that's kind of why id be more inclined to support a cryptocurrency involved idea. I've paid little to no attention to nft's other than hearing people complain about pretty much everything you listed and some issues with friends having art stolen which sucks.
despite that it doesn't really change the reasons id rather have cryptocurrencies remained fairly unregulated and left alone. as far as i can tell stealing someone's work to create an nft is already fraud because your misrepresenting ownership of what your selling. its indeed a problem and it does need addressing but maybe addressed in court? I'm worried some of the things my government wants to do to regulate this issue is overreaching. I would rather good caselaw be made naturally in the arena of the legal system with people with genuine complaints paving the way for how to deal with these issues in the future.
That's not likely but I feel like it would be the better way. but with my less than layman opinion aside, Fuck people who jack art and make crypto scams though they ruin the whole point of having an alternative like this regardless of how the dice fall I hope people like that get theirs. my friend Kogey had some of his music stolen and that isnt freak'n cool.
