Today I was thinking about Steele. In the first part, he behaved quite aggressively towards Balto. I thought he probably had a reason why he hated wolves. It also occurred to me that he was probably much older than Balto and Jenna, because his owner said "Steele seems to be starting to fail." And this is quite logical because of age or illness. The Demon dog from the movie "Snow Dogs" was also aggressive and biting because his teeth hurt.
So, now about the possible reason for the hatred of wolves. I thought that Steele knew Father Balto and their acquaintance so impressed and frightened Steele that he began to perceive all wolves and hybrids with hostility. And so, he and his master visited the master of Father Balto. In my mind, Balto's father is 75% wolf and his owner raised him as his friend. The owners quarreled and Balto's father rushed to defend his master, because of which Steele's master was seriously injured and spent a long time in the hospital. Steele was afraid of this aggressive dog and still blames himself for not being able to protect his master.

That's quite the theory especially since dogs can develop PTSD and suffer from their past. I had two dogs, both Spitz and my female was abused before we got her so a lot of things were iffy to her even up until the day she passed after spending 10 years with us. My male was shot by a truck driver and from then on he hated men, he hated trucks and he hated people in uniforms. He was insanely aggressive to people in uniforms and males over anyone else, no matter what we did. It wouldn't be a stretch to think something similar about Steel aside from just jealousy and being territorial, I like it. 😉 Creative.
So beautiful and touching interpretation of your own personal observations in the first movie, indeed this your amazing theory about Steele being so aggressive on Balto and his mix breed well explains a lot of things. There's not only jealous reasons if he acted like a very bad doggo only with Balto. I liked so much your great interpretation, your point of view nicely works, Sensei Marmenuar!
And thousand compliments for this heartmelting illustration of a very sad, worried for his future Steele. I have no more words as i keep watching a great leader of sleds now living an obscure life. Keep up the amazing work dearie!!!

You are welcome, Marmenuar! Oh yes, let me say that you thought correctly as this backstory about Steele could really be happened like that. ^v^ Very much interesting also this, it's still so courious and obscure the destiny of Balto's parents. Still unrevealed why in the movie he lives with the funniest silly uncle Boris. xD
