Hey folks! So a bit of actual experimental drekeology here with the sling but I will start with the throwing stick.
I wanted a very simple throwing stick and, a few months ago while I was walking around the university I study, a tree trimming group had knocked off a branch that was somewhat curved with a big knob so I simply cut it shorter and it's good to go! The stick with a good horizontal throw will fly about 20-25 yards which is a bit below what I like but it works.
Throwing sticks, while not seemingly impressive are a useful weapon that has been used throughout history for various forms of hunting. I want to make a more refined one in the future but for now this stick will do.
Now the sling is different, in case you folks didn't actually know I've been braiding and practicing with shepherd slings for many years now (off and on). So in recent weeks I have been puzzling how to make a sling work with drekir as in the past I have left it at they (sadly) cannot use silng but I am looking to challenge that so I wanted to make a functional new sling for testing that's shorter than most of my already existing paracord braid slings. This sling is braided in a simple split pouch and is made of Sisal (a plant drekir would probably have access to in the Dragonscape) and the pouch is reinforced with additional twine, same with the finger loop for comfort. You can use almost any material that can be braided into cord slings aren't that picky about what materials you use.
The plan is to use a shorter sling with a particular style of no spin slinging technique. I am acclimated to using the figure 8 throwing style which, along with most other styles of slinging, drekir probably won't be able to use. But there is the apache style which I am experimenting with and modifying in a way to maximize the benefit of a drek thrower and I think I am onto something here. The method has proven accurate, though like i said I have been slinging for years now so I am unsure what a hypothetical drek trying to learn sling would go through.
So with some luck slings will be introduced (or more reintroduced) into the DragonScape, and also a simple throwing stick.

There are slings that are attached to sticks (The Penobscot stick sling and the well known staff slings often called fustibalus) that use sticks as part of the device as a sort of "composite lever". There are also contemporary designs that also incorporate a stick.
Generally one handed stick slings can and do exist exist, but two handed staff slings probably wouldn't due to ergonomic and anatomical constraints. I will probably draw some examples when i get some free time to do so.
