Going through some old photos of plates I made over the years. This one was made at one of the Anthrocons I shot. 1/2 plate collodion on aluminum (tintype). Probably shot with one of my Baush&Lomb tessars. Cell phone photo of the finished plate.
It's tough to try to stand still for a three second exposure. But looking at it again it's got a nice soft focus look to it.
I'm thinking of shooting again this year at Anthrocon, but my health hasn't been too great lately and wet plating is physically difficult, lugging around 50 lbs of equipment and 60lbs of water, then standing in the sun for hours. I have to make up my mind soon, so, we'll see.

I'm mad anyway so no problem there. The developer is not really a problem, my summer formula is just white vinegar, ferrous sulfate, a little sugar and a drop or two of alcohol to help it run across the plate. Ferrous sulphate is sometimes used as a diet supplement for low iron. So, add a little olive oil and you have a nasty salad dressing.
Some of the collodion recipes have ether in them, but in hot weather I use ether less formula.
