The original paper sketch for this was from November and I think I started on this digitally at some point in January, with the intention of it being a single-layer practise piece. The characters were both done on a single layer with the background stuff on a separate layer. A couple of days ago I got it to a point where I can consider it finished "enough" after having spent about 6-8 hours in total, at a guess.
Truthfully I didn't want to spend any longer on this since there's always room for an addition here and there, not to mention there are always details that could probably do with a tweak, meaning I'd take too long considering this finished otherwise.
Thank you to
Akorr for providing me with some important critique on compositional elements while this was in progress. I think I redid my head 3 times or something.

Hm, not really. Though I think any meanings attached to the robot are a bit too vague for me to consciously put them into words.
And I'm guessing you're referring to the broken spike ridge thing on my head? (I can never decide on terminology for stuff like that, I guess spinal/cranial ridges is what I would think of them as...)

Oh, I see why you thought it now. That's what I get for trying to blend signatures into the art sometimes.
And it does mean something, yeah; in that regard it's like many things about me as my 'sona I guess. This particular thing about it being broken started happening at some point after https://www.furaffinity.net/view/37922718/ and although the two things aren't directly related, it's a related timestamp.
In any case, the broken ridge partly represents two things at least, one of them being the fact that for me there is no such thing as a perfect representation of myself, ideal or otherwise. And the other thing being the fact that at some point I realised there was a "breaking off" at an inner level which I couldn't have predicted and which I find difficult to put into words very well. This latter thing is what relates more with the timestamp, as the former thing was actually more of a conclusive rationalisation to what was an already on-going and non-conscious process.
Vague and confusing? Probably... Certainly as short as I can think of putting it though. :P

I'm so happy to see this up! This one was a doozy for you! It came out astounding though, so hopefully you find it worthwhile(spending the time, that is)
How his eye pops is just so nice.
Single-layer practice is great, more like painting! Which, I imagine, is more up your alley, the process and such, that is. Now if only there were a tablet that worked with my tactile issues XD
I never thought to ask about his broken spike! I did a goof and assumed, I figured it was from a battle or a bad day during a nasty fall/ something colliding with it on one of his macro adventures.
It's really cool to find out the meaning/inspiration.
