This piece comes from a few Stream of Consciousness fragments based on a few disconnected childhood memories from the mid-seventies to the early eighties. I figure a lot of folks around my own age, and who grew up in North America, or who were at least exposed to US and Canadian TV and radio from that time would likely get most of the references I have used.

That's quite evocative of my own childhood in some way.
A mutual friend of ours thinks that the point of New Coke was so that they could switch to corn syrup when they brought old Coke back. Prior to New Coke, the Coca-Cola of the US was sweetened with cane sugar. I've always enjoyed that minor conspiracy theory.

Thank you. Your comment also reminded me of some old Rush lyrics:
Time stands still
I turn my face to the sun
Close my eyes
Let my defenses down
All those wounds
That I can't get unwound
I let my past go too fast
No time to pause
If I could slow it all down
Like some captain
Whose ship runs aground
I can wait until the tide comes around
Time stand still
I'm not looking back
But I want to look around me now
Time stands still
See more of the people
And the places that surround me now
Freeze this moment
A little bit longer
Make each sensation
A little bit stronger
Make each impression
A little bit stronger
Freeze this motion
A little bit longer
Time stands still
I turn my face to the sun
Close my eyes
Let my defenses down
All those wounds
That I can't get unwound
I let my past go too fast
No time to pause
If I could slow it all down
Like some captain
Whose ship runs aground
I can wait until the tide comes around
Time stand still
I'm not looking back
But I want to look around me now
Time stands still
See more of the people
And the places that surround me now
Freeze this moment
A little bit longer
Make each sensation
A little bit stronger
Make each impression
A little bit stronger
Freeze this motion
A little bit longer
