I remember watching Gargoyles as a kid, but I could never seem to catch it on TV. Luckily, it's all up on YouTube now and I recently rewatched the first two seasons. I'm always a little afraid to revisit things I loved as a kid because I prefer to remember them as a kid. With an adult's eye, I look at Power Rangers and shows I loved then as garbage now.
But this show really holds up. It's pretty dark for Disney with complex plots, memorable characters, it even shows blood. It definitely puts the kids shows on air today to shame. Check this show out sometime.
This really doesn't qualify as Halloween art, but who's keeping track?

Awesome coloring job, big guy, and that is some AMAZING usage of real-life posters and ads. I especially love the New York City subway map and the warning sign on the door. Great detail work!
One question, though: why is Broadway drinking? I don't recall the gargoyles ever consuming alcohol (since it was a Disney show there were *some* limits). Of course, if anyone was likely to, I'd have picked Broadway first thing. :P Or is that not booze, but water or something else?

Oh make no mistake, they're all drunk here! The trio is sort of just out of their teens (relatively speaking) and I thought it'd be hilarious to draw them sloshed, which I think is something they'd definitely do...maybe not on the show, but you know what I mean. I almost gave Brooklyn a joint.
Using photos in digital art like this can look good or real cheesy (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/409678/). Here, I think it looks okay but I'm glad I took the time to draw the subway rather than using a photo. Even though all those vanishing points were a real bitch, the characters will fit into the background much better. Come to think of it, I should have added more graffiti to the walls.
Thanks for the in-depth crit.

Ahhhh I see. Well that does make sense in that context. :P
You're quite right, for all the extra work that went into drawing the background instead of a photo, that work shows in how well it all fits together. And believe me, after a certain project I had to do for a high school art class, I know all about the hair-pulling frustration of vanishing points. At least it turned out pretty damn well if I do say so myself. :)
Always happy to oblige.

I liked the world cruise too, because it showed off so many different places, characters, and stories. The only downside I could see to it, aside from keeping Goliath and Elisa away for so long, was a) meeting so many characters so briefly only allowed glimpses into other stories without much development b) some of the stories were a bit stereotypical (the one on the Alaskan island with Native Americans and the raven spirit comes to mind) and c) it went on too long. A good concept, but stretched too thin. Still, individual episodes were pretty darn good, like the one with the London clan, the one with the Eye of Odin, the one with Anansi in Africa, and the one with the Days of Future Past scenario. (A horribly depressive and tear-jerking episode, but very well-done.)
I've only seen the first two seasons, since I've heard the third series starts to really go downhill after Greg Weisman left over creative differences. The two seasons I have seen have definitely had real strong opening and endings. We need more shows like these: ones that take on huge issues like gun violence but don't slam over the head with morals, complex characters that aren't just animated action figures for sale, great voice acting..."Gargoyles" had everything going for it. Now we get Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana.
That, and Spongecock, Total Drama Boredom, and various crap shows. One modern show that came sort of close was Storm Hawks, but could never compete with the epicness of Gargoyles. And yeah, Season 3 was not as good as the others, but it tells what happens after The Gathering, replacing Xanatos' antagonist role with the Masons. Not as good, but still gave a good ending. But just wish they continued -_-
Ah happy drunks, always laughing, always smiling, even when that bottle of Colt 45 turns into a Cock 69 they're still happy as can be!
God, I remember that show as a kid, I only ever got to watch it a few times because for some reason I was only ever able to catch it on at like, 6AM, was good from what I remembered, though.
On to the piece itself, very awesome work dude! Indeed as ol' Nieveajo Badonkadonk said, the usage of photos here came out well, doesn't seem the least bit cheesy and is very well placed. I hope you don't mind my asking, but I was always curious, when you draw out the lineart do you have a sketched-out base drawing before putting down the finished lines? (I'm not sure if I asked you that before, I don't think I did but if so, my apologies!)

I'm glad you like it so. I'm old-fashioned: I looked off a picture of a subway car online and used a ruler and pencil to draw it out. Then I inked it, scanned it, and colored it. I've never used a tablet before. I'm afraid they'll be like when you sign for a package or have to sign a screen at a grocery store and you just get a scribble.
Ah, I see, well that's cool :)
Believe me, those writing things UPS have and tablets act EXTREMELY differently, when you put that stylus on the tablet, it actually reacts instead of just going "You're trying to write your name? Aw, isn't that just adorable? Well, not today, today you're name is FUTLP ARNTIJVR!", I've heard it's a bit difficult though adjusting to drawing on a tablet since you have to look at the monitor while using it, but I didn't find it difficult myself since it was like using a mouse in that department, if you've got a friend who has one, try it out and see if it's to your liking :)
