Somehow, I don’t think this is what the Beatles meant. ^__^
Here, the Island Flyer surges across the Solent towards the town of Ryde on the Isle of Wight, leaving a cloud of sea spray in its wake.
Ryde grew to prominence as a southern English seaside town in the 19th century; a place where both the masses from the industrial cities and landowners from the country could relax for a brief time. At the heart of its energetic esplanade is Ryde Pier, the world’s oldest seaside pleasure pier, which can carry people, cars, and trains to its end, at which there is a small ferry terminal. The trains run to Ryde Pier Head station, and the trains themselves are interesting in that they are converted London Underground trains, and have been (through various type of train) since 1966.
Hope you enjoy!

Very nice!
It's sad the 483s have been replaced by the new stock. Those trains were built in 38. They spent like 30 years on the Shanklin to Ryde Pier Head line. Now they've entered preservation and replaced by the 484s ex-D78 1970s-80s stock.
I wanted to go over to get the 483s before they finished but never did lol regret it now haha
Nice info and pics, Dai <3 thank you.

Yeah, they're restricted by Ryde Tunnel. The tunnels that lead from Ryde St John's to Ryde Esplanade.
Some London stock is small enough to fit through. I think it's the only place they can go if they want existing stock that are small enough otherwise they'd have to design and build from new.
They were threatening to close the line completely and just have buses. The island lost so many lines under Beeching, I believe. They were going to put the last nail in its coffin before they decided to get refurbs.
