Found this in my DeviantArt gallery, thought you guys might like to see it. Its from 2009.
My description from DA:
Yesterday evening I got the sudden urge to draw a Kyrin, the Asian Unicorn. I browsed the net to get some ideas, since I've so rarely seen them, and came to realize that there aren't very many pictures of Kyrin out there.
So this is my best attempt at drawing one, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I'm not very experienced with drawing deer so I had to do several sketches before I got something I liked, but once I was over that hurdle the rest came very easily and I had the whole pic finished in just a few hours.
The symbol in the corner means Luck or Good Fortune, this is meant as a birthday present for my dad. He probably won't know what it is so I'm including this little story/info with it:
"Thousands of years ago, the sage Fu Hsi was sitting by a river when he was splashed with water. Raising his eyes, he saw a Unicorn, which the Chinese call the Qilin (“chee-lin”, wading carefully through the river. The animal resembled a deer but had shining scales like a dragon. A single horn grew from its forehead. Its back was covered with strange signs and magic symbols. As the Qilin walked away, Fu Hsi grabbed a stick and traced the symbols as best he could in the dirt. These drawings were the Qilin’s gift to China – from them would evolve the characters of the first written language.
Long before the pearly white Unicorn of European lore, a one-horned, magical animal was said to roam the Eastern world: the Ky-Rin, or Asian Unicorn. First mentioned in written stories around 2700 BC, this Unicorn is described as a creature of great power and wisdom. Always benevolent, it avoids fighting at all costs and walks so softly it will not crush a blade of grass, and it can also walk on water. Much like its European cousin, the Asian Unicorn enjoys its solitude and cannot be captured. Although it looks fearsome, the Ky-Rin only punishes the wicked. Being a peaceful creature, its diet does not include flesh. It takes great care when it walks never to tread on any living thing, and it is said to appear only in areas ruled by a wise and benevolent leader (even if this area is only a house). It is also considered an especially good omen when seen at the birth of a child. Though it is normally gentle, it can become fierce if a pure person is threatened by a sinner, spouting flames from its mouth and exercising other fearsome powers that vary from one story to another.
According to legend, the Chinese philosopher Confucius was the last person ever to see a Ky-Rin."
(NOTE: This info all came from various sources on the net, I didn't write it!)
