The carriage house was pitch black beyond the neon glow of the jukebox. The white cat stepped to the middle of the room, a single white kitten clutched in his mouth. His ears flicked as his eyes adjusted to the darkness.
"I told you to stay out!" Cuervo lay curled up atop the jukebox. His tail was a bottle brush as he growled.
Angel sat his younger brother down upon the floor, then moved to stand guard in front of him. He narrowed his eyes and looked hard into their elder brother's matching gaze. "Our brother needs help," he said. "And I'm going to make sure he gets it. With, or without you. Stand beside..." He crouched, ready to go ten more rounds. "Or step aside."
