Remember when I mentioned a dark gameshow I enjoyed during my Fee Fi Fo Yum rant?
No? Can't blame you, was almost a year ago.
Anyway, this is a dark, fantasy gameshow I remembered watching on CBBC when I was a kid. Trapped! (AKA 'Trapped: Ever After' in season 4)
This gameshow started in 2007 and flowed through with four seasons, ending in 2010.
What's the plot? It is set in a gothic tower on a small island in the middle of the sea and seven kids are sent there to compete in different challenges on each floor, starting from the top and going to the bottom, fighting for their freedom. All of this is watched by the show's spectator, The Caretaker, played by Simon Greenall, who lives in the tower after being trapped there by the tower's enigmatic owner, The Voice (played by Eve Karpf in season 1 and played by Faith Brown in season 2 onwards). The challenges in the show would always be different and very hard, no, almost impossible to win.
How each game would work is the seven competitors are made to work together in each challenge while wearing a special earpiece called a Whisper Clip, before the start of each game, The Voice chooses one competitor to be "The Saboteur" and then guides them with their Whisper Clip to sabotage the game and make sure the other unfortunates fail without being detected.
If the team win the saboteur will be confirmed to the unfortunates and will then be trapped on that floor, while the others move down to the next floor. If the team fail, then they will have to vote for who they think the saboteur was and the one with the most votes has to stay trapped on that floor, regardless whether they were the saboteur or not. (The Voice will confirm who the saboteur was after the voting) If the vote is a draw, the two unfortunates with the most votes will have to do the traditional draw straws and the one that draws the short straw will be trapped. Yeah, you could say, this is what the children of Britain had before Among Us became a thing.
So, that's basically how most of it goes, until we get to the final two unfortunates when they get to the final floor, floor 2. (There was no floor 1 apparently) This last challenge is a quiz where the competitors have to answer as many questions about their time in the tower until the time runs out, the one that has the most points ends up obtaining the Key of Freedom and escapes.
This gameshow was thrilling, dark and hard. I can tell you, you wouldn't enjoy these challenges. Meanwhile, if you wanna watch this dark fairy tale show, I would suggest YouTube. (I'm afraid there are no uploads of season 1)
Well, that's all I have for this review. I hope you enjoyed hearing of this old gameshow.
