I found an unfortunately dead but HUGE dragonfly in my yard a few weeks ago. Very pretty colors (blue, green and purple) and it was bigger than my thumb. Just thought it was neat; just thought I would share.
Being an artist/gardener/working in a shipping warehouse, my nail polish and skin around my fingers is almost never not torn up and chipped. I horrify ladies working at mall beauty counters.
Between that and thinking this giant dead bug was cool... I fail at being a girl all around. Harhar. ;)

Yes they were out in force this year. There was a day where one corner of my yard had a cloud of those, flying around eating something. I went out and stood in the middle of them and they (1000 of them) just flew around and ignored me while I stood and watched. I dont know what was up if this year was a special year for their breed to pop out, or what, but they were huge and plentiful this year.
I thought it was a decoration or someone's lost hairclip when I saw it in the grass. I was amazed to find it was a (formerly) living creature. I picked it up, put it on the outdoor table and got my camera.
I've never been afraid of dragonflies. Used to catch them and pick them up when I was a kid. It totally grossed out the other little girls. I'm pretty fearless as far as nature is concerned. Human beings are what scare me :)
