This is very nice, I really like the detail in the backgrounds and the expressions of how the character feels.
Actually, I have always wondered how this is. I can definably understand the idea of feeling alone. But in the area I live in, here in the USA, we don't really have that. So I cannot really understand the significance of the culture around this. Can you explain it?

even in the US, it doesn't matter how many people is in the city, its simply circumstances.
sometimes parents still work, sometimes they have a sudden thing for just themselves, sometimes its something simpler like they went out for groceries.
it also varies for the person coming home too. sometimes you want a different friend or person to be with, its not a universal energy pool for socializing even for extroverts. sometimes its just acknowledgement, that "it doesn't take much" but you're noticed thing.
what is shared between the entire world is the expectation of family being there for you. not all families end up perfect though, but that's a different topic.
