Midnight- TF2
Wanted to write something cute and lighter, so here's some late night snuggles c:
Moonlight dusted the room in soft tones, the occasional shadow of some nocturnal creature obscuring it briefly. Medic lay awake, watching bits of dust dance in the lights and lost in thought. Archimedes perched in his nest, the bird’s wing wrapped in a neat bandage. The doctor frowned and ran a hand through his hair. He peered through the darkness as movement caught his attention.
His partner lay beside him, still sound asleep and curled close to him. The blonde’s breathing was the only sound in the still room. Medic gently pulled the blankets back over him where they’d been kicked off in the course of the night. Klein shifted slightly and looked up at him, clearly still half-asleep.
“What are you doing up?” the smaller doctor asked, his voice raspy from sleep. “It’s still dark out.” Medic sighed and let his head fall back onto the pillow. Klein gently laid his head against the man’s shoulder.
“Can’t sleep. Thinking,” came the doctor’s reply. He wrapped an arm loosely around his partner, drawing him closer. “About?” Klein prodded, turning his head slightly. Medic gave a half-hearted shrug. “A lot. The battle today, Archimedes’ injured wing.” He hesitated for a moment. “Insecurities.” Klein blinked, a bit surprised that Medic would admit to feeling insecure. The man was typically a textbook example of confidence, bold and outgoing and loud. He smiled gently and intertwined his fingers with the doctor’s. Medic seemed to appreciate the gesture, squeezing his hand lightly in return. “Insecurities make us human, do they not? Is there something specific that’s been bothering you?” Klein asked as the doctor shuffled around to find a more comfortable position.
Medic thought for a moment and shook his head. “I suppose it’s a feeling of… inadequacy. The loss today put some things into perspective,” he explained. His brow furrowed; somehow, giving a name to the feelings only brought them to the forefront. Klein sensed his inner turmoil and brought a hand up to run it through his partner’s hair. “No one expects perfection. We’ve all got our flaws and issues and quirks. Today was rough, but everyone has a rough day on occasion,” he soothed as the doctor relaxed into his touch.
“Demo’s a drunkard, Spy’s a nicotine addict, Sniper is a bit rough around the edges. And don’t even get me started on Scout,” he joked, smiling when Medic stifled a laugh. The doctor lazily nudged his head against Klein’s and smiled. “Was? You’re a therapist now too?” he teased. Klein nestled his head under the man’s chin and wrapped an arm around him. “Not quite. But sometimes I’m told I give good advice.” Medic chuckled lightly, returning the embrace.
“You can play god all you like, but at the end of it all, you’re as mortal as any of us. And that’s perfectly alright,” Klein said softly. The doctor could tell he was starting to fall asleep again. A calm settled over the room as the two laid there. The blonde’s presence reassured Medic as he let himself finally relax. His head felt clearer and he had his assistant to thank for it. Klein had quickly fallen fast asleep, clinging to the doctor loosely. The older man simply sighed and let himself drift off to sleep beside the one he loved.
