Aies was the son of Iar, god of fire, and Ui, goddess of water, and worshipped by household wells and wish-fulfilling ones also. Every city in Rothmenar has a public fountain named after him and his festival was called Aiesacarax when public worship was held by his fountain and the sacrifice of fish and mice are offered to the god. The Aesacarax is a time of forgiveness and charity, and when community wells are cleaned and city drainages are repaired. The act of cleaning waterways, wells and drainages helped to maintain public hygiene and prevent plagues and diseases. Hence Aies is also known as the Ward of Plagues; worshipped for his plague-preventing blessing.
Some of Aies's wells are infamous for being haunts of the deceased who committed suicide in them. The deceased are usually girls who failed to gain the favor of their beaus, so in anger and sadness they threw themselves into the god's wells as sacrifice in hope that Aies will avenge them. Many ghost stories are told surrounding the wells of Aies especially ones that are found near forests where fog is thick at night. One tale tells of a night of Aiesacarax when a group of wandering boys saw a procession of girls in wet dresses led by the god Aies sounding his tail-bell for them to follow into a fog-covered forest. The next day the boys were discovered lying on the ground senseless, and became mute and deaf ever since.
