Make sure (a) you find an artist that has been working for many MANY years (10+ is good), (b) you don't get foisted by said artist off onto their apprentice (because "it's such a simple design"), and © that the artist has pictures of FULLY HEALED tattoos in their folio (all fresh tattoos look great, it's the end result that's telling).
I didn't know this when I got my first one, and I wound up being drilled too deep. Mind, it turned out scarring and it raised the design, which a lot of people say is cool, but I've had to have it reinked because it bled out really bad, and I still need to have it patched up again. >:P

Well, the appointment is set for the 28th of this month! I ended up picking the color one, but at one of the tattoo artist's suggestion I'm not doing the blue part of it. It will 'muddy' the black line, making it harder to see.
And lord knows I'm white enough it'll really stand out. ;)
