More catching up on the prompts of Fabluary, where I try to illustrate the concepts from my friend Burd's FableVerse world building. Mixing two prompts together cuz they do fit to explain the world more.
Before Prey was first created, the Predators were the only life. Although they could kill each other or die from injury, they were immortal and would not age or die from passage of time. Time just works differently in the FableVerse and the concept of growing old was unknown.
When Prey was created, they too were immortal while able to be killed at the hands of the Predators.
Once the Predators were gone, time continued the way it already did, not aging the life in its world. The Prey, with no Predators to consume them, stayed immortal with no sense of passage of time.
But worse, while Predators understood the concept of death, Prey did not. Prey was purposely created ignorant of death, to not realize their fate as food for the predators that created them. Seen as a mercy by the Enlightened Wolves when they created Prey. Keep them simple and happy.
Now they are just ignorant. No concept of death, but able to take actions that can cause it to others. Without a Soul to pass on, without a Soul to provide empathy, a Prey can commit an act causing the death of another and barely register it beyond "huh, my friend sure is taking a long nap after I pushed them down that tree, just for funzies."
A world inhabited by cute little fairytale critters, missing the sense of consequences for others by their own actions, is quite a place to behold once you see it.
Do enjoy!
