Oh, they are They're made of one single piece of wood, steamed in shape. Then a layer of Rahkveia plate (a very popular metal in this world. Looks like brass but acts like steel) Then there is a layer of thich leather on the inside of the shield.
These shield are, as you probably noticed, different from the earlier ones. It's the guardian's shield, where the colors are reversed and a bit more detailed.
They are used for tight formations so, yes, they could take a hit or two^^
