Journal entry: As artificial beings, there was a specific reason to our making. The goal of our creation was to prevent a shortage in the effectives of magic users across the continent.
To make it short, dragons' return changed the face of our dying world, and their alliance with humans created the conglomerate of city states we're currently living in. It centralised the ressources and power around a small amount of them, leaving the peripheric states without any relevant leverage to counterbalance. In our world magic isn't something many species can channel on their own. Grotcha for example are completely inept to magic and humans can only use it through a catalyst. I learned they could bypass the catalyst through a dangerous ritual but that practice was banned and the process purely erased from archives centuries ago. Dragons by their connections with the leylines, are infused with magic, but their independant nature made them unreliable. So scientists through ages tried to make derivated species of them through combination with other animals or sentient beings. We are the finality. The genetic child of dragon and humanity, their own catalyst and massively produced. When the project was shut down, we were about 500000 individuals thrown into a world we had no knowledge of, with only our magic, military skills and a sense of community for only salvation...
