This is just another story in Felix's life. I don't know why I wrote this particular one, I was just in the mood to. I would love to hear feedback from those who read this. Please tell me how you like this in the comments so I know I am doing things right. I might be updating this soon with more of the story if I get enough good comments on it.

Felix walked along the grainy beach, dressed in her black armor and holding swords at her sides. Thick blood rolled down the flat edges of the weapons and oozed out onto the blood soaked sand. The Gritting grains of red dirt clung to her foot pads as she walked up, and the beauty of the red and purple sunset was marred by the equally red sea that it was reflecting off of. She sighed and looked to the side, hearing more screaming as a group of enemies rushed toward her. Getting ready in an instant, she charged forward, sand kicking up behind her as she ran.
The battlefield was on a cliff overlooking a beach and was home to one of the last battles of the war that had ravaged the planet of its natural beauty. Carrion birds circled the skies, waiting for the feast that would come at nightfall; the grass had been stained red and trampled by the warring soldiers, each spilling the other’s blood as much as they could. The entire place reeked of the heavy iron scent of men and woman’s blood, each joining friend and enemy in eternal slumber, cut down by blade or bullet. No other feral animal inhabited the area, having long been scared off by the war cries, cries of pain, cries of the dead, and the incessant clanging of steel on steel. The reason for the war had been lost, and now it was just kill or be killed because that is how it had always been for these soldiers and the mercenaries the kingdoms employed. This was a place of death now, the original name for the bluff long forgotten and it was doubtful it even applied anymore.
Felix strode through the battlefield, dealing death and carnage where she could, making her way back to the encampment to rest and eat, saving allies she could and killing enemies that challenged her. Her breath came in pants and her eyes were sunken and dull, having lost a bit of their gleam from fatigue and the constant death she saw and dealt around her. She was almost like a machine now, immune to the cries of the dead and dying around her, numb to the scents that invaded her nose, and callous to the feel of her swords tearing through armor, flesh, and bone as she ended yet another life. Slowly, she made her way back, gathering allies as they moved and felling any enemies that fled from their path. Nightfall was upon them soon and both factions retreated back to camp to tend to the wounded and receive supplies and fresh units from convoys. Felix sat in the camp and sipped from a cup of water while eating what meat she could. A twitch of a smile graced her lips as she heard a few of the new recruits cheering and having a good time as they compared kills and number of enemy units slain while the veterans sat a talked quietly among themselves. “Well, why are you so glum Felix? Not enjoying yourself anymore?” A voice called to the worn down mercenary. Felix smiled and looked up at her friend and ally that had come with her to the field.
“Fyth, I still don’t understand how you can be so perky even after all of this.” The wolf moved to the side and patted a spot for the Tigress, reclaiming a bit of the sparkle in her eyes. “I am getting a bit sick of war, tired of hearing the dead and ending the lives of those who wish to end mine.” She sighed and felt an arm around her shoulders.
“I understand, but such is the life of a mercenary. But pick up a bit, I have heard rumors of the end to this war. We can go elsewhere finally after this.” She smiled and picked up a mug herself. “Just hang in there Felix and we will be out of this soon enough.” She hugged the wolf and began eating herself. The two friends sat there for a while and talked, sharing small stories from the past and cheering each other up.
“I just want to end this and go visit someone again. This war is taking too long to finish.” Felix said and downed her mug, in a noticeably better mood than before.
Fyth smiled and gave a chuckle. “Aw, you miss your dragon Kagrin?” She joked and pushed the blushing wolf. “I don’t blame you. I wish I had a good man to go back too.” She stood up and stretched. “Well, it is getting late. We should head off to bed to rest up for tomorrow, be safe Felix.” The tigress waved goodbye and walked off to the tents.
Morning came by too quickly, the sun illuminating the red field and the lines of soldiers that stood ready, looking across the battlefield to the other army. Felix stood in the very front, holding her blades at the ready as their leader gave his speech to all of them about how this would be the final fight, that the bastards on the other side would finally pay for everything they had done, the allies they had slaughtered, the aggression they had when starting this war, and everything else. Within moments the signal to charge was given and they all rushed forward, Felix out ahead and leading the pack as the other side began their charge as well. In slow motion the two came together, a deafening silence permeating the area as Felix jumped and slammed their lead to the ground with a sword through his throat. Sound came back in a din of metal and screams as things continued as normal; a parry here, a slash there, motion by motion Felix ended the flickering flames of life before her as allies fell around her as well. She screamed and howled, dodging blows and getting caught by other, only for her healing ability to erase the wound instantly so she could move on.
By the time the sun was high, Felix noticed something odd, the enemy was strong today and her side was being pushed back. Only when the sound of something exploding behind her and the growls of those in front of her did she realize it, the enemy had gotten something more than the standard units and were pushing her side back, killing three soldiers for every one they lost. Fyth had been right, this was the end of the war, but not in the way she had thought. She was suddenly assaulted by three imposing members of the enemy and desperately fought them off, dashing back and retreating. This became a pattern for her, fight a few enemies and fall back, fight, retreat, fight, retreat, all the time she never saw any of her own allies alive. “Felix! Over here!” she turned her head and saw Fyth with a small group of allies fighting off 10 soldiers by a mountain. With no hesitation, Felix dashed over and cut out the legs from two and beheaded them. Joining up with the others, she desperately fought off the enemies and eventually felled them all. Panting, Felix looked around at the small group of fifteen. “Fyth, what is going on?” she asked, hiding and looking around for any others.
“We were blindsided, the enemy flanked us with elite units, our forces never stood a chance with the raw recruits we had back there. Before we knew it, we were being cut down left and right. Felix, we have to flee, we are possible the only ones left alive. Come on, I saw a mountain pass we can go through.” Felix nodded with the others and they began to fall back, figuring this was not the right place for any further discussion.
Slowly, they made their way north to the mountains, evading and killing enemy patrols when they had to. They lost allies, reducing their feeble numbers down to eight by the time the mountain pass came into sight. “Come on, guys, almost there and then we are free.” They all sprinted towards the entrance when a horn sounded behind them, turning they saw the whole army advancing on them, having a view of the field as they all charged towards the small group of survivors. “A bit of overkill, don’t you think Felix?” The tigress said worried. Felix looked forward at the group the back at the army,
“Let’s go, only one thing to do. We have to get through the pass.” She said and urged the others on as they ran from the impending doom.
Felix skidded to a halt and panted as Fyth and the others continued through the narrowest part of the past. Smiling, she spoke. “Go on ahead Fyth, continue with the others while I delay them here.”
“What!? Felix, come on. You will die if you stay here. Come with us so we all can escape!”
“No, if we all go they will just catch up, don’t worry, I will be fine. You forget my healing ability. I will meet you at nightfall, just go!” she yelled.
“No! I wont leave you behind!” the tigress yelled and lunged forward just as Felix knocked down a section of the cliff and caused boulders to fall down and block the pass. “Felix!!!” she heard the voice on the other side along with a bit of sobbing.
“Just go, I will be fine. I promise to see you at nightfall!” She turned around and walked forward, seeing the army coming forward towards her. With a small smile, she pulled her blades ready and jumped into the mass of soldiers. She stabbed and slashed with her swords, spinning and blocking at the surrounding soldiers as they pressed against her. One got a spear past her guard and stabbed her leg, causing her to howl in pain and drop to her knee. Still she slashed out and cut those around her, pulling the spear out as the wound healed and threw it back. She howled again as a sword found her arm and cut deeply before she slashed out again. Blood seeped down her arm before it healed slowly and she continued the dance of death. Panting she continued this throughout, never able to thin the numbers as the body pile grew around her. She stumbled from a downward slash as she missed man and was disarmed. Sweat dripped from her brow and she slashed clumsily with the other sword, catching the man in the throat. This didn’t last long as she was disarmed again, losing both her swords now. She panted and stood up straight, her wounds had stopped healing, being to numerous in such a short time. She laughed and looked at the setting sun. “It’s so beautiful. This sunset.” She said as men circled around her, still a bit wary. “Just calming, the red and purple.” She sighed and jerked slightly as a blade erupted from her chest, blood spraying. She coughed up blood. “Looks like…I can’t...” she jerked again as a foot was placed on her back and pushed her off, her body falling against the ground with a thud. “…can’t keep my promise.” Her own blood pooled around her as her vision began to blur and darken. “Sorry… Fyth….Rei…. Kagrin….” She muttered as the last breath escaped from her lungs and she was welcomed into the waters of oblivion and death. The last thing she ever saw was the red sunset.
Fyth returned to the pass the next day and climbed over the boulders, her small group having evaded the army thanks to the delay, the army which had moved on. She saw the wolf’s body lying on the ground and slowly walked to it. With tears in her eyes, she turned Felix over and saw the Vacant stare in her eyes, the life gone from them. “Oh Felix…” she picked up the body and carried away from the battlefield. A few days later, all the people that Felix had told Fyth about received a letter announcing her death so they could grieve in their own way. To this day Felix lays in a marked grave on the cliff of the town she had visited often, the town where her house and Kagrin’s was. The tombstone read,
Here lies Felix, Mercenary and Friend. Truly loved by those she knew. May we all remember the life she gave to save those of her comrades. May her soul find peace in the waters of the afterlife.

Wow, I gotta say that's a very sad ending. Overall I though it was pretty good. If I may I'd like to offer a bit of criticism though. That said, I'm no expert writer so take anything I say with a heaping mountain of salt (because a grain wouldn't be nearly enough).
The ending I thought was very good, and very sad, but it may have had more impact if we knew why they were fighting. That way you feel the tragedy of a lost cause on top of what's there already and may help make he reader feel more connected to the plot.
The only other thing I would suggest is maybe add a bit more description. You have a lot of great action but I may add a bit more descriptive/flavor text to really make the action pop. That though is purely personal preference, and it's really a nice story as is.
Hopefully that little critique didn't sound too negative, I didn't mean it to. great story!

Ugh, bit of a long story for such earily in the morning, but awesome story none the less. Ashame none of my character was mention, but other then Hastia, Oria and Gwan, none of the other really had much impact on Felix life so it understandable. Still this story finnaly reminded me that I had wanted to do a tale with Felix with either Nagra Omaga (Grand Father to Negastar) or Alastar Omaga (Father to Negastar) in a war, likely Nagra Omaga as he an old old warrior, what one more battle?
Still a great story, but wonder if this take place before or after Hastia. It great we never figure out what the war is about, after all Felix a merch, you get paid to fight, not play judge to other moral. The war itself is unimportant, this just another job and the story focus on the battle and the senselessness of it, using the right amount of description when needed and when to just skim off the unimportant part as the story seem more focus on the environment then the battle itself. I know most get lazy but I enjoy imagining in my mind how the battle goes up until near the end. Hehe, now I have idea of Felix death and return if does. pretty fun to think about before seeing the next story, though the most intrestiing one is with Bordayus :P
