Commissioned piece for
of her characters Ciara and Deirdre, to illustrate a scene from a story she is/was working on. I'm gonna be lazy now and copy pasta what she wrote in the description she sent me:
"Deirdre never wanted to be a mother, but she loved her daughter, and raised her as best she could. But she was terrified of things she didn't understand and as Ciara grew older, Deirdre began to take refuge in her duties as General of the Cearnach army more often.
The day Ciara turned twelve, everything changed. Cearnach lost the war, and an enemy army was on the march only a few miles away from the city itself. Fearing a prolonged siege, Deirdre put Ciara on the fastest horse in the kingdom and sent her away at a gallop. Ciara set out with instructions to settle in a neutral village in the middle of the island, and to wait until Deirdre came to get her.
Nine years later, Ciara was settled comfortably in her new home and she would have been happy enough for this life she had built to last the rest of her days. But late that last summer, war came again. War parties clashed outside the gates, and the first person to be injured in the war was Ciara, whose shoulder was laid open by a glancing arrow as she rode out to stop them. Deirdre, now a mercenary soldier, and the leader of one of the war parties, left the fighting to rescue her daughter and take Ciara to safety. Ciara is furious with her mother for abandoning her, and for leading soldiers to her front door. But anger soon turns to forgiveness and tears of relief as they embrace, Deirdre reassuring her daughter that she really is back."

Aw, now this is just beautiful. You captured the emotions I had in mind so very well, and even though I wrote the scene myself it's an amazingly touching piece of art. The looks on their faces say it all. I love how you contrasted Ciara's look of happiness and relief at finding her mother again with Deirdre's expression of regret. What I gave you for this piece was really such a small fraction of their relationship, and one that was really condensed down quite a bit, but this one image sums them up so nicely! I knew you'd do a good job, but this is just amazing!
I love their clothes. I know I asked quite a bit of you here, especially for Ciara's outfit, but you always design such wonderful outfits and I couldn't be happier with what you've done here. I'm really fond of Deirdre's bracers and the brooch holding her cloak together. In fact, I love everything about the way you drew her. And the way you drew Ciara, too, though I already knew you'd do a fantastic job with her. It's great to see the two of them together, too. Ciara's red fox ancestry really stands out when she's with her mother! But that's just as it should be.
I love the knotwork border, too! I've always loved the knotwork you've done for previous pieces, and this is just beautiful! Thank you so much! I've really been looking forward to seeing this piece, and it's just gorgeous!

Thanks. :) I knew this one had a lot of personal meaning to you so I tried my best to make sure I captured the emotion you wanted. Also, I do love drawing knotwork, and so rarely do it anymore. Not sure why that is, but it was fun to work on some again, and I knew it was fitting for this picture. ^_^
Awww, that is so beautiful! I love, I just love how you capture the emotions between characters so incredibly well, Luthien. And this even has that much more impact when you know the characters well, like I do, after having followed Velox's Oseille story from beginning to end
This is a truly lovely picture, darling. Absolutely, truly wonderful
