Far off the mainland, in a series of islands lies the Tele, a civilization of monastic peoples who place great importance on martial and physical prowess. They are well known for being greatly attuned with the elements and substantially large in stature and frame, traits they hold in high esteem which stems back to their history as a subjugated people.
Roughly 2 centuries ago, the islands of the Tele were controlled by the numerous empires of the mainland and was in constant war over the rich resources of the islands. The native islanders were once more timid, peaceful, and relatively weak, which made them easy to control and enslave. For many years, they were used for all types of labor in very dangerous conditions and were even used as conscripts, being forced to fight one another when their people were separated by their conquering nation. So it was for them for nearly a century. Over time however their will to be free grew and they slowly tried to win back their lives.
In secret they would gather, regardless of their enslaving nation and began to plan their rebellion. They knew they were at an extreme disadvantage due to their technological deficiency and lack of numbers. So if they were to fight back, they would have to make their bodies stronger than any weapon. Each individual had to rival multiple of theirs. Their bodies had to be their arms and armor. With the elements at their sides, they trained to become unbreakable warriors.
They focused greatly on a martial style which involved strong, grounded stances to hold their ground and striking hard in retaliation, looking to outlast any opposition with their immaculate defense. Their bodies reflected this style with massive and heavy build with immense strength. Using the element of earth to further augment their hardiness and the element of wind to enhance their movement, they became the unstoppable martial powerhouses needed to win back their land.
In the following years, they began to fight back. Their supernatural durability, peerless strength, and ability to move the very earth and sky baffled all the invading nations. Eventually, despite all their disadvantages, the native people won their land and lives back. They united as one large tribe, the Tele and defended their land effortlessly from any who would try to take it.
They lived on disconnected from the rest of the world, tirelessly improving their martial prowess. Eventually however, the invasions finally stopped and they finally achieved the peace they had not known for so long. They did not change their ways of course, knowing this peace could possibly not last forever. But many grew curious of the changes to the mainland. None were forbidden to leave and so those most confident in their abilities did so, wandering the mainland and nomadic monks, seeking challenge and enlightenment by interacting with the people of the rest of the world.
One of these nomadic monks was named Akamu. A Kommo-o of a respected lineage whose forefathers were well respected for their skill and prowess during their battle for independence, not to mention, being among the largest of the Tele.
While this trait of his lineage is well known and respected amongst his people, the rest of the world is in awe of his stature and fighting ability. Compared to the other travelers of his kind, he is noticeably more confident in himself and enjoys seeking out challengers who wish to see his unique style. He has battled in many tournaments, arenas, and even colosseums (one of them being where he met a very special Charizard) where he proudly displays his abilities. He has even taken on a few students which unfortunately can only learn the basics as they would need to match the Tele's stature to truly use their style.
To this day Akamu continues to travel to pursue martial perfection. His respectful, good natured, and generally kind demeanor is well loved while his self confidence (and slight arrogance), large presence, and generally serious tone is well respected. And of course, his high martial skill, baffling durability, and awe inspiring control of the air and earth makes him a fearsome opponent and a spectacle to behold.
Another biiiiiig lore post and a pretty pic showing how has has developed since I first made him, with him doing the same stance and stomp from the very first pic I posted of him. With his much larger size, it causes a much bigger impact!
Biiiiig thanks to reagan700 for this lovely piece.
