Painted around them, because I don't find easy ways 😅 I also used a little bit of white goauche here and there, but the idea of that effet was in the lowest layer of translucent watercolor in this work (it gives the pinkish and bluesh - so I couldn't paint everything with it).
I own masking fluid, but I'm not sure where it is, and I'm not a big fan of its effect on paper. Or did you mean something else on "resist"?

yeah by resist i meant masking fluid--- i got some once, but the bottle wasn't right, so it dried out entirely after only a couple uses! I was really annoyed.
It must have taken a long time to paint around the branches, but they look so pretty. I asked because I thought they didn't look quite like the effect you'd get with masking fluid. I've seen some people use masking tape cut into shapes too, but I don't have good luck with that either haha.
The gouache is mostly around the tail if I had to guess?

Oh, it's a pity! i don't know how things are with the prices of art materials in your country - but in mine this fluid is quite expensive, so I would be very disappointed if somethingh like happened to me.
Thank so much! I'm happy to read that, because I thought ti would be visible for the viewer.
Hm, I have never thought about using masking tape for that - sometimes I manage to take some of the drawing off with it 😅
But now I think that maybe washi/decorative tape may fits this idea, because it less sticky, and you can peel it off as many times as you like, unlike masking one. I think it's worth a try.
And yes, goache are used in that area and on some branch tips, you are right.
