I imagine that poor Tir will probably be the one whom has to do all the heavy lifting in cleaning up the mess as well as seeing their handiwork in the garden ruined. Though hopefully Tir won't get the blame and be on the receiving end of a lecture.
Most likely one of the butlers accidentally set off the ray and the others each tried in turn to stop it but everyone got zapped in turn. It'll probably be quite a while before anyone wakes up with that powerful a blast.
