The primary mouth of an adult Hydruga can span the width of their ribcage. With a bite force strong enough to crush metal, once a member of this species catches their prey, they're absolutely no escape.
Roak, however, prefers to swallow his prey whole. Nothing discourages 'snitching' more than the sight of an unlucky victim squirming and begging from the gurgling depths of his swollen gut.

He does! The maw in his chest is for 'emergencies.' when he's gone several days without eating and he needs food in his system RIGHT NOW. It's lined with tastebuds and leads more directly to his stomach so he can absorb big prey more easily. But when he has a steady supply of food, he's more likely to use his upper mouth.
