I'm not sure if their timeline mirrors ours in this fanfic (it's a commission for a different writer, so he knows the details better than me lol) but yeah, the general idea is that humans have gone fully extinct by this point, I believe (which is definitely a nice slice of dark, especially considering MC as human lmao-)

More like 2122, since in the "real" world we're still here in 2022, but many scientists warn if humanity doesn't clean up fast things could get VERY bad in 20 years from now.
