-from Berserk by Kentaro Miura<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>This month’s Patreon project was to use a quote from an established property to help illustrate part of one of my character’s stories. The other quote was from Suckerpunch, but my patrons chose the one from Berserk, and, hard as this was to make, I’m glad they did. This quote from the Skullknight to Guts really does work well for Iona, and the world of Berserk has a large impact on how I handle Iona as a character. So everything in blue is from Berserk.
We have been losing the greats so much in the past few years, but the death of author and manga illustrator, Kentaro Miura, hit me REALLY hard. Those of us who really got into Berserk saw a lot of ourselves in the characters whether we saw something good, something painful, something hopeful, or something bad. And hopefully, we all saw a little bit of Guts within ourselves too. Rest in power, Kentaro Miura.
I also have to thank all my lovely patrons. They have been such great support this year, and I hope to continue turning out good stuff for them and for you guys as well.

Yeah he died last year and I think the consensus is that the worked himself into a fatal problem with his aorta. Man did not accept event the help of assistants/apprentices until a few years ago, and every one of his pages was a fucking art piece. And he’s been doing that series since the 80s.

I know they scrapped the side project that he was essentially heading to make sure that his assistants could compliment his style as they helped him, but last time I checked, the future of Berserk is still up in the air. Miura had mentioned before this last chapter was published that the storyline was about 80% done. I had heard that they were trying to see if he’d taken notes that were extensive enough for them to find a way to bring closure to the project both for the fans and for his legacy.
