This is the culmination of a few ideas from Beyond Calm Waters, a side project comic book. If it were a game, this is the way the interface would look (kinda). It's very FF influenced because I'm a classic gamer.
I threw Lily in there as a nod to my primary comic, Lily Blue.
If I made a sprite sheet, would anyone have a good program to use to animate them? Imageready sucks, so anything other than that.

Hmmmm, I saw some very interesting projects being worked on, but I read a review that said that there were some glaring limitations (no store clerks and other rediculous claims) the scripting looks like it allows for a wide variety of modifications to the gaming. I'd have to read more about it before dropping the dime for it. Good to know though. Thanks again!
you can make your own games :)
normally in SNES-graphical style
if you invest a bit money of course, normally the makers are not for free, but i think they are worth the money
i myself bought the most actual one, the RPG-Maker XP, but as allways i lack of ideas ^^ but playing around sometimes with it is fun too, building own maps and such
if you are skilled you can (in theory) make all kinds of games with that maker (but you need to work with the scripting-language and all then)
there is the page of it: http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/tkool/R.....eng/index.html
out there in the net are many makerpages too with help in forums or tutorials and material, sadly the XP-version is kinda new and so there is still not that much like it is for the 2000-maker (XP and 2000 does not say for wich system they are! )
with many basic stuff i surely can help you if you want, especially building maps, its the most fun for me ^^

After a bit of reading up, it looks like an exciting prospect, but difficult learning curve. I'm good with programming languages but I've never even heard of Ruby. I'd have to spend a lot of extra time just learning to script, but it would be a fun side project. But if I add one more side project, I'd end up without any of my other projects getting done. Maybe when I get more free time...like after this semester of classes. I might end up taking you up on that offer. I don't know what this program can do, but it looks like a lot of fun and work too!
look at the page i postet, dl the game there (KN or such) or search some sites for it.
it is made without using the scripting, it is pure using of built-in-functions.
i saw a video (think on the same page) showing some of the awesome stuff possible.
you can have a look at all the 2k-pages and look at some of the games.
since the makers are different (i think even different publishers/producers) they are different in some points, but i managed to redo a tutorial for 2K quite good with XP :) well i allready knowed quite a bit about normal using.
RGSS is said to be a very strong but easy language. i "only" know php/mysql and am VERY bad in learning myself without tutor for all the basics and such, so i dropped learning the scripting in XP (while i can read nearly all of the code, but barely reproduce it)
to see difference in the games possibilites look for normal 2K-games and look for "Vampires Dawn" (with some bad luck it was german, but the programmer of 1 and 2 made nifty stuff with 2K-editor).
then look up XP-games (mostly only demos). graphics and other stuff is more good in general, for some more posible stuff look up "Aveyond" at http://www.reflexive.com and look at the demo. nice graphic and modded menues and such.
i think, RMXP is nice, you can do good games even without nifty scripts so you can do small projects if you are bored or need your thoughts elsewhere. if you get into the scripts... even better, but needs more time so save that for later :)

I know, I'd be like a kid in a candy store...it would be very fun to play and design, but I haven't seen a game with anthro characters in an RPG for years. There's not a huge demand for characters like these to be in RPGs, but Sheena is right, with these character sprites alone, you could probably make a decent set up. I was just going to try and get the little ones to move, but making a whole game around them...Such a tempting idea.
