Photoshop is genial for that (with the layers and those all things)
You can scan a drawing only in black and white, without shadows, use one of the select tools for wipe off the white areas and make them transparent and in a inferior layer paint it. I do not know if I have explained well... is complex to explain and easy to do. I usually do that for color scanned drawings.

With the with the magic select tool an the appropriate tolerance, It will be easy to make it transparent. Try to do it.
Then you only have to copy the image, open a new document and paste it. it will appear as a new layer above the bottom of the new image. In that bottom you can paint without fear of paint over the edges. Perhaps most difficult are the layers.

Dangerous and Deadly as it may very well be, it is CERTAINLY cute. However, I cannot see it flying without some sort of VTOL system... Ah- okay, I spotted it. Thrusters under the winglets. Hope those ain't the same Hellfires they use on Apaches!

Oh... About the wingspan, I design this jet with an unique feature, it got 4 thruster. And this jet fly by using it's thruster to hover and fly, the wing just for accommodate the missile pod :D
I got this idea after watching a documentary on the experiment wingless-plane by NASA. They cancel it after a total failure on that design XD
