No place in the universe will ever truly serve as shelter if you are on the constant lookout for new visuals to witness, especially not as eternal beings. It is within their blood to never sit still, collecting dust. And even the plainest of deserts offer adventure, deep beneath the scorching surface. Not that the temperature bothers such define beings...
Mirage and their companion, Guard (as his cyborg, feral self) are sitting on top of a desert mountain, patiently waiting for nightfall as the semi-robotic enjoys its meal.
For those who remember feral Guard as a feline-like machine, yes - he has changed. It was the decision of both my mate and me. Guard was supposed to be a two-legged feral robot since the beginning, but at the time we both enjoyed four-legged beings more thanks to a game he played.
Mirage used to have a tamed bird-like creature as a companion since they first lived on Home until he eventually ceased to exist. (There is more to the backstory, just summing up the important stuff.) The entity then preserved his body in resin, as an appreciative ritual for having served them with companionship and company for hundreds of years. This prevented the dead body from undergoing natural degradation for the most part. One day, Guard himself desired to test new technology upon a creature himself, overtaking it, basically. Mirage offered him their old friend's body, hoping to see him again despite their doubts, in the eyes of their beloved robotic ally. And it worked - but something unexpected happened. The soul of their companion managed to upkeep the connection to his former body, with now Guard and the companion himself having to cope with one another's minds. A strange, yet unique harmony between organism and machine.
Guard belongs to xenomorph-evil
Mirage is my own character.
