Here's another interpretation of the ornately-uniformed Ducal Guard of Grand Fenwick. They're responsible for the safety of their world's monarch, the Duke (or Duchess), and despite looking like they're all show, they're very capable of the job.

I cribbed the name for a world in the setting for The Terran Wars when I was writing my Star Hunter stories. My reasoning was that the last remnants of royal houses on Old Earth pooled their resources for a colony ship and picked a world they could re-establish themselves on -- and it worked, sometimes with a tongue held firmly in a cheek. A seriously updated system of nobility, but that was to be expected. Oh, and "duke/duchess" were their highest ranks, no princes, kings, or emperors.
