I had a fair amount of time with no music ensembles and working from home over the past couple years, and I had also been enjoying a few different machine shop YT channels. So, on a whim, I decided to buy a welder (and grinder, and safety equipment, and...). Turns out, it's quite fun to do metalwork.

This was my first big project, and while it's by no means perfect, I am very happy with how it turned out. It's called a tensegrity table, and is floating entirely on cables - there are no rigid supports. Basically, the weight is held up by the center cable, and the four cables around the edge keep it balanced and stable. The metal parts are 3/4" steel square tube that I cut and welded together, steel wire rope, and a stained poplar tabletop (surprisingly expensive), and it's about 2 feet square and adjustable from about 2-4 feet high. I gave it away as a gift, but I've already got some ideas on how to improve the design.

Some of my music groups have recently started back up, so I should have some music to post soon.
