Damon was once the champion of an island kingdom in the middle of the Aegean Sea, fighting many battles to expand his burgeoning city state's influence over the region. However, those battles could not have prepared him for what was to come next.
Seeing Damon's potential, the King personally sought out the champion to undertake a personal quest of his - to slay the legendary hydra and bring back its highly coveted scales. The leader knew that if his men could slay such a terrifying beast, it would send a message that would resonate across the entire Mediterranean. Without any hesitation, undyingly loyal to the crown, Damon embarked on this dangerous exhibition.
After a long and hard-fought battle, which required him to dismember the beast as quickly as he could before it could regrow any of its heads, he emerged victorious. However, when he started to gather the fallen creature's scales, he noticed something strange starting to happen. He couldn't get the scales off his skin. The harder and harder he tried, the more they began to spread all over his lower body. Terror washed over him as he watched his legs merge into a long serpentine tail, not unlike that of the beast he had just slain. In a fit of panic and madness, he attempted to cut the reptilian portion off, causing him to pass out.
He woke up an untold amount of time later, feeling incredibly nauseous and giddy. He grumbled, noticing that the snake tail still stretched out from below his waist. Though, he was extremely confused when he heard someone else breathing beside him. To both his left and right. At the same time, somehow. To his horror, the hydra had cursed him - he now shared its form. Unable to face the king and the outside world like this, and unwilling to tarnish his reputation as an undefeated warrior, he was stuck in a horrible dilemma. To kill or be killed, if the King had sent anyone else searching for him or to hunt the hydra once more.
Yet, getting accustomed to this strange form allowed him to appreciate the benefits of being twice the man he ever was. Sharing a mythical beast's raw strength, combined with his skill on the battlefield. Over the years, stories spread far and wide of a strange creature that protected the nearby village from harm. Anyone who tried to conquer it was either lost in battle or ran away in fear. Conflicting reports told of a hydra-like creature, others a lamia, some of a one-man army. But they all had one thing in common - a new legend was born.
