This is a tattoo I designed late last year for my bestest bud Samantha. She wanted me to design her second tattoo, so I did, in I think a two month span (I don't remember how long it took exactly). Sam got the tattoo in December, on her upper arm (although she didn't get the words done, coz she was unsure about them at the time). She had it colored similar to the bottom rose in the picture.

Anyway, I think I arranged these correctly... It was quite a project. There were far more drawings than those pictured here, but these are the general "big" stages in the design development. Doing the checkerboard pattern on the leaves was done on pure whim, but when I showed it to Sam, she loved it. Yay for whims! Also, on the checkerboard design, I did not use a ruler ONCE throughout all the designs.
And as you can see, most of the roses here were not scanned, but photographed (with a crappy webcam .. which was all I had at the time). Some of them were drawn on tracing paper, to keep the general design in place while I edited certain details. I did not, however, trace anyone else's art than my own; all of the designs pictured were done by me, completely from scratch.
