When a fully-evolved member of the Stratta line is exposed to certain rare, non-terrestrial minerals found in relation to meteors, a remarkable, if somewhat alarming, evolution can take place. An Ecitonnage that consumes the meteoric crystals and ores will undergo a rapid evolution into a rarely seen, and very dangerous, "mutated" form.
Contrary to previous behavior and personality traits, the new Pokemon are wildly aggressive toward any and all Bug-types that it may encounter, with a particular preference for attacking Stratta and their ilk. In truth, the new evolution, Porphyrant, is one of the main threats to Stratta colonies all over the continent, despite their rarity.
Porphyrant is significantly larger even than a Queen Ecitonnage, closer in size to a human child, tough that is only the "huntmaster". There are many smaller, subordinate Porphyrants that act as a means of attack and diversion, not unlike how Stratta and Myrmeshale act as workers and guards for Ecitonnage.
Porphyrant is as much a thief as it is a hunter, however. It doesn't seek to eat Stratta or other members of the evolutionary line, but instead desires the minerals they collect for food. Using their large, grappling claws, Porphyrant is more than capable of hauling away an entire stockpile of gems and ore to their own tall, tower-like nests that they build in dry, hostile areas.
One of the truly unique abilities learned by Porphyrant is something known as Greater Infestation, where an enemy is swarmed, bitten and clawed by the lesser members of the buzzing group, inflicting damage repeatedly, all while leaving them bewildered and open to a more dangerous attack from the lead Porphyrant. Most often, the attack comes in the form of picking up and tossing the offending Pokémon away, or into a solid surface. It's not uncommon to see Porphyrant swarms battling with Stratta, tossing them wildly aside so they can dig out the stores of ore for their own greedy needs.
