Hey folks! Wanted to give an update on the Experimental Drekeology, a record of all the stuff thats complete (some not yet uploaded) as well as some stuff on the horizon that I am working on, some potential future stuff and some chatter as I am running out of things to make.
I have made a good basic set of tools that covers most things that A drek would need, namely blades and wedges for chopping, cutting, and digging (though a digging stick might be warranted). So I am trying to figure out where exactly I should go in the future in making drek approved pieces of technology.
So what's been made
I've made 3 knives, one if which I will upload as soon as I find it (I lost it whoops)
I've made two chopping tools, one Adze and the far older copper hatchet
I've made two weapons, a slingbow (I'll upload that tomorrow) and a throwing stick (for later upload)
Which is a good set of basic tools to get the discerning hunter gatherer going. But I am unsure of where to go in terms of practical tools without repeating myself.
What I am working on
So as a result, most of my current projects are longer, more tedious jobs that are going to be a while before results start to pan out and have unclear completion dates. So we will see.
I am grinding down a piece of slate tile into a blade for butchering and processing food items.
I have a mostly completed copper bracelet that I want to do some more stuff with before I finish it up and upload it here.
I am slowly assembling plastic pieces for drilling into beads for a coming necklace or bracelet.
and For my new slingbow I am making projectile points for comparison against eachother, I have copper, bone, and slate points in the works but grinding takes time. PVC might join them.
So smaller projects that are going to take a lot longer than my previous ones as they either are about making a lot of small things or big things that take time.
Potential future projects in mind
These are projects that I could go and directions i could go
First is a heavy spear, less of a hunting weapon and more of a murder weapon out of copper.
Next is a copper awl for punching through hide, leather, ice, etc.
Next is a small copper drill bit for a hand/bow/pump drill for drilling through wood, bone, and thin stone flakes.
After that is potentially another axe or adze? Kind of a repeat but I do have a good stick for the task.
Lastly is an Atlatl, I have two atlatls and I am working on Darts already so I am lacking a reason to make a 3rd atlatl but it might be nice to demonstrate a cruder atlatl.
Then above are projects I WANT to do but lack the resources, time, or infrastructure to do so.
Just things that are going to be harder to get a hold of at this moment, the one that is most likely to change would be baskets as spring is coming around and I plan on getting into some basic basket weaving but legality on whos cattails are who is something i will need to figure out, the rest are definitely not on the board in the immediate future as they require me to have more land, money, time and resources than what I actually own.
So what do you guys suggest I do next? Do you folks want to see something and what do suggest for future projects for the Experimental Drekeology?
Alrighty be well and be safe
