Meine gefesselten Lieblingswölfe 45: Bunto
Bunto is an exclusive character who is only featured in the anime version of The Jungle Book entitled Shonen Mowgli. He is a villain who was chased out of the pack, because he and his two companions broke the law and helped Shir Kahn to hunt humans.
Still I like this character. Just like Fenryr in Yu Tomofuji´s manga Niehime to Kemono Ou - Sacrifice to the King of Beasts, he lost his left ear and his left half of the face is badly sared because of getting burned by the torch of a human villager if my memory serves me right.

With Akela from Shonen Mowgli being the first wolf to start the series, it's nice to see another wolf from the anime series making it to the list. Though he's a more villainous wolf he does have a sort of charm to him with his scarring and the missing ear. It seems like he's another whom became embittered and vengeful, wanting to be a part of the pack again after being outcast.
I imagine here that Mowgli after Bunto had declared he wouldn't give up had perhaps in that moment made a decision, striking him on the head with the stone knocking him unconscious rather than stabbing him in the throat. Bunto has regained consciousness now and seeing Mowgli is still defiant and angry, perhaps growling through his gag that Mowgli will regret not killing him.
Perhaps his own words would be spoken back to him, that his life had been spared and that while he's imprisoned for his crimes he does now have a chance to reflect, perhaps rediscover whom he once was. If he can then it could be that one day he will be freed and that if he's truly found it in him to reform, it's always possible he could find a place in the pack if others can forgive him.

I somehow have got a natural sense to like characters the most, who often find a tragic or grim end.
I like to imagine that if I capture them, they at least can keep their lives. Because as long as there is life, there is still some little hope for reformation.
Fun fact: Bunto´s german voice actor later on performed Tuk, the giant Grizzly in Disney´s Brother Bear and a little later he was the german voice of Darth Vader in the game series The force unleashed^^

Maybe Bunto would find that he received semiregular visits from Mowgli whom had considered for himself that with his decision to have spared Bunto had something of a responsibility for the wolf, maybe seeing if he could help him let go off the anger. If it took a few minutes of just showing no fear and more or less ignoring the snarls and growls and the bluster. Then being careful to avoid where they'd be the painful scar tissue, gently stroke the wolf under the chin or behind the ear, just for a minute. A gentle touch and a small show of affection might over time subdue Bunto's anger and maybe one day, Mowgli would see Bunto's tail just twitch slightly in the start of a wag.
Bunto's end did seem a bit sad even with him having been a villain, so if all things are true in imagination and in Eternal's realm I'd imagine that was the fate for this version. Eventually though it might be a long time Bunto would have found inner peace and not be considered a threat, so he'd be free and just quietly live out the rest of his days at the edge of the pack's territory but when he did pass away he'd be buried alongside his ancestors.
There was very little reason to trust the intent of the mysterious and sinister rat, certainly not to believe that his intentions were in any way good. Captured, bound and placed in a dungeon apparently as part of some collection for a time, though supposedly he'd be released at some point. Naturally then he snarled in disbelief and anger at the mockery of the rat, that seemingly there was a magic in this place that could in time heal scars.
Physical scars not so much maybe, though the angry scar tissue pained him a little less and that phantom itch of his missing ear would bother him a little less. Seemingly though the anger and the hate might fade a little every day, once he began to begrudgingly accept each day feel the ruffling of fur under his chin, have his neck and chest fluffed and carefully stroked between his ears and hear the words 'good boy'.
As one of his fellow wolf captives had tried to warn him, those two words could have a powerful effect on even the most vicious of wolves.
