He was there in the room! YES! it is sad that she had to hear the truth but that image of him....
theory mode go!
not going to be a long one here but...
neck dress - red (brass?) and yellow (i assume gold), back to page 18 of vol 1 and page 8 of vol 2 the guards don't ware that. meaning it's again unique. if that's the case then it matches the colour pallet of the chief's robe.
posture - tilted and not upright, we know he's too short (young) to be an honour guard and if he was he would need to maintain a strong posture throughout his shift. honour guards are there to watch for threats, they are only allowed to move there torso if it is to react to a threat or addressed DIRECTLY.
angle of eyes and head:- tilted down and to the left. if this is a normal tribal chief tent(large possibly a square), then that from the perspective of entering puts him in the left rear honour guard position (which we know he isn't) or slightly behind the throne to the left.
I'm leaning towards the chief's son now, the clothing, position, he's allowed to react but not say anything, he's in the tent but he was absent when Ryn was first captured (if he was there she would have seen his face.) suggesting some freedom's or other duties.
a chief's son must lead by example and do there part. train and hunt almost as hard as the warchief's son, learn as much as the wiseman's son, and most importantly learn as much as he can from his chief to one day take his or her place.
the following is a theory of time laps of Kyo's activities if he is the chief's son. why he was absent from the tent when Ryn was captured.
if he is the chief's son the most likely activity he would be doing that takes him away from the community at the time of her capture is hunting. possibly with the war chief's son. due to his position guards where assigned to watch over him, maybe 4. during the hunt some guards noticed something near by and found Ryn with a weapon (for hunting) and assumed worse than it appeared (assassination?), capturing her and dragging her away from the fields without disturbing Kyo's hunt.
Kyo focused on committing to the performance expected of him might not have noticed the 2 missing guards and would only have noticed the guarded tent upon a successful return hunt.
he will have been informed of the girl but also the envoy and the chief will have moved him on to more diplomatic studies until s/he can get to the bottom of this.
now on to her reaction.
it is my current theory that she's the Chief's daughter of her tribe but not the heir of the tribe, either the first born daughter and she had a brother or one of his later children.
given her reaction that's not the reaction of a leader betraying one of his underlings but a parent betraying a child, in this case her.
it also gives me a theory of why she may have been hunting in the first place. now that reaction suggests that she was somewhat close to the chief but it could be not a fair split between his children, maybe leaning more towards the son.
the following is a theory on her if she is the daughter of the chief of her tribe.
if she was the next in line till her brother came along it might have stirred something up and it explains why she may have been hunting. if she's not next in line the chief would only see her as valuable if you maintained in the tribe. i think she was allowed to do all the things a male heir would do until a replacement came along.
i want to step back here and mention something, if the chief has a daughter and no sons in tribal society the daughter is expected to learn everything a woman is meant to learn AND everything they would have been expected to learn if they were a son.
this is so that in some way the daughter acts as a vessel for the next male chief if the Y chromosome skips a generation. (he might end up with a grandson but that's neither here nor there.)
so, why was she hunting? I think she had been taught as the next in line for a long time. however why the laps. if the chief has had a son maybe 3 years old it could be she had been annoyed at all the affection her dad now shows her son and not her and out of frustration she went hunting alone.
due to this frustration she had a laps in judgement and entered a rival tribes territory and that's how she got caught.
