Another strange creation from my break. IDK what to make of this.

Usually they pay but it's often not worth it since you're just burning up the tiny bit of free time you have with even MORE work.
The friends of my dad are the worst offenders I guess he blabs about me at work or something idk. It probably goes something like "Hey your son that works at the dealership do you think he can work on my car at home for cheap"? "Sure he can all he does when he gets home is sit in front of his computer doing nothing, I'm sure he can look at it." And a few days later a car shows up in my driveway.

Yeah. I can believe it. Phone call: "Dad, what's this car doing in my driveway."
"Well, son, I figured, since you've got a lot of free time when you're not at work, you'd like to make a few extra dollars working."
"Dad, I'm really, really busy working on my art."
"ART! That isn't work. That's just playing around."
Is that something like the conversation?

Well I still live at home so it'd be "our" driveway. And I don't talk about my art with my folks, actually I'm really secretive about it for some reason IDK why. They usually say I just spend too much time in front of my PC doing "nothing" and need to get out of the house. Just this night my mom was begging me to go to some "cowboy stampede dance" 50mi away and I DO NOT dance because "you're not doing anything else" plus there's the whole fact I don't do well in crowded public situations.
Yeah, when people found out I could fix computers, I wound up doing that all through my 'free' time. I started charging about what I made at work, minimum 1 hour, and it tapered off.
A few people tried to screw me, grabbing their fixed machine and taking off without paying. My oldest brother -- a known deadbeat -- was an offender. I found that there are files that Windows wants and moving them to other directories prevents the machine from booting. Mmm-kay -- that will cost you the $30 you never paid plus a hot dinner. And he is/was a damned good chef.

Whenever I work on these cars I usually charge a little more than I make at work (to make it a nice round number...plus it's what I WISH I made, you'd think for how much they charge... I'm not going there...).
That's why you lock the door, or in my case hide the key inside or in my pocket till cash is in hand.

Hee, hee! When my brother was a mechanic, the shop had a regular customer who was a deadbeat. It's not like he was a casual stranger; a local college instructor, our little sister hung out with his daughter. My brother's shop started blocking his cars inside with other customers' cars so he couldn't sneak out with a spare key.
