Flying during a pandemic, on Christmas Eve, from Cardiff, it probably shouldn’t have surprised me that the airport would be as quiet as it was. As it happened, only the 20 or so people on my flight to Edinburgh were in the airport, with everybody on the previous flight to Palma de Mallorca having already boarded. And that was it, in a regional airport built to hold over hundreds at a time. Perhaps unsurprisingly, boarding was rather smooth as we ascended the fold-down steps onto Embraer E-145 “Clan MacDuff”, operated by LoganAir – Scotland’s Airline. After settling into my seat, the tartan-clad stewardess asked if I wouldn’t mind moving back a couple of seats, as they needed someone to sit in the emergency exit row. Well, I supposed if I had to get extra legroom at no extra cost…
Departing east and sitting on the left-hand side of the plane meant a lovely view over the southeastern tip of the Vale of Glamorgan, to the seaside town of Barry, or ‘Barrybados’ as the locals call it. It didn’t quite live up to that name this morning, I have to say, as shortly after taking this picture we hit cloud, and despite a fleeting view of Liverpool as I enjoyed a small cup of tea and one shortbread biscuit (You’ll have had yer tea?), I didn’t see much of the ground again until final approach into Edinburgh.
Also, this was my first flight in well over two years. Dang, it felt good to take to the skies again. ^^
