Checkmate in Two (cm)—by Quinn
The inevitable was upon me. His eyes glowed brightly and the air around him seemed to pulse with energy, and I could only watch as he grabbed his queen and held it high, or at least high to my shrunken form. With a smirk, he placed it down to my back-right. "Checkmate," he boomed, and I fell to one knee in defeat, looking up at him and even at the "soldiers" surrounding me, as I had become smaller than mere pawns.
I could only assume the consequence for losing was to be diminished even further, and his unyielding smile suggested the same. But I could only maintain my sadness at the loss for a few moments before considering the possibilities that would be brought about after dwindling again. As I felt the familiar feeling of compression come over me, I could only ask "Hide and seek this time?" and smile back.
He nodded. There was much more fun to be had for both of us.
